The Water Crisis

I chose water as a cause to support because it is something most of us take for granted on a daily basis. At my Company, when we switched from bottled water to using water bottles and filtered water, many employees commented that they would now have to walk to the pantry to retrieve their water. What surprised me was the contrast between how many of us expect clean water as a constant in our lives, while women and children across the world have to walk hours each way to collect clean water for their villages and families.

Water is necessary for life and is increasingly becoming a problem across the globe. In 2007, a poll by the British Medical Journal found that clean water and sanitation was the greatest medical achievement since 1840. The problem now is that with expanding populations we still have a long way to go. While some places in the world like California, Brazil, or China begin to realize that access to water is increasingly becoming a larger problem, 780 million people across the globe still lack access to clean water.

That’s where the “raise awareness” part of this campaign comes in to play. What I hope to achieve through this experience is for people to start thinking about how important water really is.  With innovative financial solutions like WaterCredit we can all make our money go further than it otherwise would.
